Better than studying, right?
It's finals week. So that means I get to go home in about three days.. hopefully. My ride home situation is a little sketch.
So here we go:
French Onion Soupa
it is muy delicioso
it came from looking at various recipes and deciding the general ingredients and then just going with it. None of the measurements are exact, so just go with the flow.
this meal filled 4 hungry college kids, with 2 college kids coming in to try a little bit. Plus leftovers
I started off with 5 small yellow onions (2-3 large) chopped the long way so they are in nice long pieces, threw 'em all in a pot with some chopped garlic and olive oil. medium/high heat.salt and pepper.
then I let those suckers cook down and carmalize to a delicious looking and smelling mass.
here we have those babies just barely covered in some sweet pink wine. doesn't really matter what brand. this bottle was probably $5, if even. it gives the onions a really sweet flavor, which pairs well with beef broth, i think. a dark red wine would be good as well. whatever you prefer! throw in some bay leaves (i did 3), too.
allow it to hang out for a few minutes and soak up all that wine goodness (try soaking some bread in it at this point, it's soooo good!)
after this, throw in some beef broth and allow to heat through. i used two of the quart boxes for my amount of onion, but put as much in as you need. want more soup? add more broth. more onion? less broth.
stick in some chunks of crusty french bread, top with provolone cheese, stick it in the broiler. YUM.
these bad boys pair well with this soup. cut some steak up into strips, season to taste, let hang out in a pan for awhile, throw some on a bun, add some cheese, toss in the broiler for a bit. ugh. so good.
what a beautiful meal.. like our mismatched dishes? i do.
oh yeah, we made a box chocolate cake too. nothin special, just done up all fancy!
boys chowin down.
